WHICH IS BETTER - PETROL OR ELECTRIC?
Usually electric, but not always. There are applications that petrol powered vehicles may be more suited...but not many.
Today's electric vehicles are very powerful, and have a huge range (often 100kms or more). Also, electric vehicles have far fewer moving parts, so there are a lot less service items and a lot less to go wrong. You can even order your new golf cart based electric vehicle with a solar canopy integrated in to the vehicle roof, for even more power-saving capability. While the solar canopy feeds power in to the batteries they don’t replace the need to charge from the mains, however a significant increase in operational range and batteries tend to last a lot longer before replacement when they have been constantly charged by the integrated solar charge system.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WATER MY BATTERIES?
Batteries need to be watered on a regular basis.
For new or strong batteries, it is OK to check and add water around once a month.
As batteries age they will require water on a more regular basis; again we strongly recommend a quality battery watering system, which makes a tedious chore a 30 second operation.
Please visit our Battery Maintenance Guide page for more information on how to care for your batteries.
WHAT IS GASSING A BATTERY? IS GASSING BAD?
A natural part of charging batteries is gassing. Batteries give off hydrogen gas as they are charged. This gas can build up in ceiling cavitries and risk of explosition if not allowed to escape.
It is very important to charge batteries in a well ventilated area. The gas contains a small amount of sulphuric acid which, over time, will corrode battery terminals, posts and cables.
It is therefore important part of maintenance to keep connections coated with a quality terminal spray.
Please visit our Battery Maintenance Guide page for more information on how to care for your batteries.
WHAT IS THE OPTIMUM LEVEL OF THE ELECTROLYTE?
When you remove the battery cap, you will see the lead battery plates within. They should always be covered by electrolyte. When batteries are fully charged, the electrolyte should be around 3 to 5 centimeters over the plates. Water levels are balanced at the correct level automatically when the battery set is fitted with a quality battery watering system.
Please visit our Battery Maintenance Guide page for more information on how to care for your batteries.
